Medial Assistants work in
offices of doctors, dentists, optometrists, physical therapists and many other
types of medical clinics and facilities. They perform a variety of tasks such
as billing and coding, assisting physicians with treating patients, taking
medical histories, taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations,
arranging and caring for instruments and equipment, completing and maintaining
records, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admissions, drawing
blood and performing EKGs. Students interested in the Administrative Medical
Assistant program should enjoy working with people, performing office work
(telephone contact, data entry, and other work with numbers) and have the time
and willingness to learn.
The medical assistant program
is made up of three (3) training components for Administrative Medical
Assistant.
This program consists of
classroom/lab components. The components consist of the following:
Component 1 Basic Concepts (medical terminology,
anatomy and physiology, medical abbreviations, legal ethics)
Component 2 General Office Skills
Component 3 Billing
and Coding Methodology (prerequisite – Basic Concepts and General Office
Skills)

Administrative Medical
Assistants will attend an externship at an area facility. Administrative Medical Assistants are required
to complete a minimum of 80 externship hours.
